EME ESSIEN LORE
COUNTRY DIRECTOR, NIGERIA, INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION
Eme is an international development finance professional with over 20 years of global experience in
implementing private sector financing solutions in areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing and financial
inclusion. Currently she serves as the Nigeria Country Manager at the World Bank Group's International Finance
Corporation, where she is a member of the Africa Leadership Team. Her role includes strategy development and
execution, business development, client relationship management and oversight of the local team and office.
She also spent several years at the Rockefeller Foundation where she led successful initiatives on impact
investing and youth employment. Eme has shaped her career around her belief that Africa's private sector has a
critical role to play in achieving the continent's development aspirations. She is passionate about the impact of
effective and visionary business leadership on achieving sustainable financial and operational performance. She
currently serves on the World Bank Group Diversity and Inclusion Council and is an IFC Diversity and Inclusion
Advocate. Eme has a BA in Economics from Columbia University, an MA in African Studies and International
Economics from the School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from
the Wharton School.
ALFONSO DE CAMPO
(MEMBER SERVICES, AVCA), THE AFRICAN VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION
(AVCA)
Alfonso is the Member Services Coordinator at the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association
(AVCA), having joined in 2018. He has over 5 years of experience in African private equity and venture capital,
with a focus on investor relations and communications.
Prior to joining AVCA, Alfonso was Senior Reporter at Private Equity Africa, as well as an Advisor for the PEA
Awards.He holds an MA in Journalism, Media and Globalisation with a specialisation in Business and Finance from
City University, London.
ABIOLA OJO-OSAGIE
SENIOR PARTNER, AFRICINVEST
Abiola is a Senior Partner at AfricInvest in charge of its Anglophone West African operations since 2009;
responsible for sourcing, structuring, monitoring and creating exits for transactions in the region. Her experience,
spanning over 21 years, has been focused on financial and business advisory services, including building
businesses, intermediating capital, providing value-add strategic advice, M&A, change management, project and
people management, process review and management workshops. Before joining AfricInvest, Abiola was an
Associate Partner with Phillips Consulting Limited. She led the team that served as joint Financial Advisers on
one of the biggest bank mergers in West Africa and was a lead consultant to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on
the development of the Financial System Strategy (FSS2020) working with the World Bank and IFC. In addition,
she served as an external consultant to the World Bank funded project of the Federal Government of Nigeria's
Micro, Small and Medium, Enterprises (MSME) project. Abiola is a First Class graduate of Computer Science
combined with Accounting and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. She is a Prince2
(Foundation) Project Manager and has attended various executive courses including the LBS CEP and the
Harvard Business School's premier management program on corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions.
She sits on the board of various portfolio companies.
DANLADI VERHEIJEN
CO-FOUNDER/MD, VEROD CAPITAL MANAGEMENT
Danladi is a Co-founder and CEO of Verod Capital, a leading anglophone West Africa focused private equity firm
investing in middle market growth companies. Prior to Verod, Danladi held roles at Citibank Nigeria, Ocean & Oil
Holdings and at McKinsey & Company. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School, an M.Sc. in
Engineering Economic Systems & Operations Research from Stanford University and a B.Sc. in Electrical
Engineering from Calvin College. Danladi sits on the boards of several Verod portfolio companies, as well as the
African Venture Capital Association (AVCA) and the Private Equity and Venture Capital Association of Nigeria
(PEVCAN). Danladi was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
KARIMA OLA
PARTNER, LEAPFROG INVESTMENTS (PANELLIST)
Karima is a Partner focused on African investments. A deeply experienced operator and investor, she has
significant experience working across the continent. Karima is widely recognised for her work shaping the
investment landscape in Africa and was recently named one of “Africa's women to watch” by Bloomberg.
Previously, Karima was Chief Investment Officer and a member of the board at ADC African Development
Corporation, where she initiated the company's entry into Nigeria and ran a number of multimillion-dollar
transactions. Prior to this, she was a Managing Partner at Chayton Capital LLP, where she led the creation of the
company's first Africa Agriculture fund. Earlier, Karima was Executive Director, Global Equities, at HSBC in a role
that spanned the UK, Hong Kong and South Africa.
Karima is a Member of UK Institute of Directors and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a
postgraduate diploma in Economics from the University of London. She sits on the Sustainability Co mmittee of
Africa Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (AVCA). Karima speaks French and Yoruba and is learning
Swahili.
