Vessel Tracking
System (VTS)
A vessel tracking system (VTS),
which enable marine authorities
and naval vessels to track, identify
and monitor a ship’s position,
location and any other detail that
might be important in a ship’s
route and course.
Example of AIS details for ships
The VTS is useful in cable locations and positioning.
protection activities, where with
ship’s speed, direction and other
behaviours continuously
monitored and corresponding
alarms marked to particular areas
of cable route.
A vessel tracking system like the
Automatic Identification System
(AIS) uses the GPS technology to
aid and serve as transmission and
receiving points using the VHF
radio channels.
The AIS acts as a transmitting and
receiving interference between
ships and coast guards of which
not only location of a particular
ship but also its position can be
monitored.
AIS is very helpful as to prevent
ships collisions, charter and alter
ships routes whenever and
wherever necessary and for coast
guards and marine authorities,
help them to find a ship that could
be interfering or manipulating the
law.
