Implement color-coding scheme to easily segregate and apply methods of handling and
disposing of waste. Color-coding scheme of wastes is indicated below.

Plastic Bag/Container Color Function

Black For non-infectious dry wastes

Green For non-infectious wet wastes

Yellow Infectious and pathological waste

Safety Box Sharps

Red Hazard

Label the bags correctly to prevent incorrect management and avoid risking waste handlers
and the environment to hazards. Proper tagging is strictly advised before transport.

Waste tagging shall be indicated in each plastic bag or liner.

A sample waste tag is shown in the Figure 1, and the tag should include:
• Specific name of the health care waste;

• Source of the health care waste;

• Type of waste, weight and date of collection of the waste, and;
• Persons handling the waste

Residuals generated by the facility shall be mixed with the municipal solid waste for proper

waste management.
