A letter from our guest editor

Hello! I’m Alex, your guest editor I am a big fan of active travel as it benefits

for this newsletter. This term, we’re the health of myself and the planet.
investigating pollution and travel. We When commuting by cycling or walking

are going to explore different methods I can greatly reduce my personal carbon

of travel and how they can impact the footprint. I also enjoy the exercise and
planet. mindfulness it can allow as I commute
                                                              throughout my day.

Did you know that 88% of passenger

kilometres travelled in Great Britain If you walk, cycle, or take the bus
last year were made using cars, vans to school, do you think you would

and taxis? That means a lot of vehicles continue to use these methods of
on the roads contributing to pollution. transport after you finish school?

But is there a better way of getting
     around?

If we look at how people arrive to
school, we can see the number of cars

     used drops to 46%.

That is because 43% of people walk
to school and 5% use the bus. These

methods are much better for the health
of the planet – perhaps commuters

could learn a thing or two from school
     goers…
