What Eco-Schools have been up to
Ysgol Cae’r Felin, Carmarthenshire undertook a whole school project to
reduce lunch time food waste.
Initially, each class held a discussion and the whole school had an assembly
on the importance of reducing food waste. The Eco-Committee monitored
how this impacted food waste and were delighted to see the amount fall
from 24.3kg in November to 12.7kg by January 2022.
Everyone now helps to reduce food waste by trying to clear their plate
and to try new or unusual foods. Children on packed lunches are also able
to contribute to this success by only bringing as much food as they need,
all helping to halve the amount of food wasted.
