2.2 UK News – Captain Brian Hoare (HoareB62)
th
The 2019 Warsash Association Christmas Lunch was held on 7 December 2019 at the Royal Naval Club and
Royal Albert Yacht Club, Southsea.
Forty members with guests and three Officer Cadets attended this popular event at the Royal Naval Club and
Royal Albert Yacht Club at Southsea for the eighth consecutive year. Our numbers were down on previous years
and for the first time we were reduced to two tables. This eliminated the need for the traditional top table but
resulted in a very sociable atmosphere and a pleasant change for our Chairman who is normally placed on the top
table looking out at the rest of us! The reduction in numbers reflects age and health taking its toll. Looking at the
list I recall about four members now unable to attend due to extreme age. Also there were some apologies for
absence due to temporary health issues and a number of loyal regulars missing in action. Hopefully these will
return in 2020 to bring the numbers up to at least 50 as in recent years. Any new members not familiar with the
venue may like to download from the Warsash Association website and earlier edition of All Hands via this link
AH2019 - 1 (UK Spring edition) containing my report which included a history of the Royal Naval Club and Royal
Albert Yacht Club which goes back to the days of Nelson.
Having reported on this event consecutively for seven or eight times I will refrain from repeating the same
commentary on the format. Suffice to say it was as usual a very relaxed and enjoyable occasion, no speeches, a
few words from our Chairman, the loyal toast and the toast to the Warsash Association.
