Know Before You Go

Know Before You Go, and its application is one of the most important safety programs at Loram and has the distinc-
tion of being the first tie in the IN-GAGED panel. As Know Before You Go is the safety focus for the month of Feb-
ruary, the WORD will highlight each portion of the Know Before You Go – 5 Life Savers. Printing out and posting
the Know Before You GO – 5 Life Savers in all operating cabs provides a quick reference and reminders to ensure
both Loram and our Customers are focused on everyone’s safety.

Track Occupancy Permit (TOP), Track Warrant Control (TWC), EC1; Each railroad applies track protection in dif-
ferent ways and under different names. The Know Before You Go process allows Loram to translate these differ-
ences into a language we can all apply.

Your attention to detail in the field will prevent Out of Lim-
its while machines are traveling and operating. But remem-
ber, Know Before You Go does not only apply to machine
or Hyrail movement. Prior to a machine being fired up for
that day’s production or prior to a maintenance crew ap-
proaching the machine; track protection must be applied and
understood by all employees. Know Before You Go is being
applied in those scenarios. There are sections within Loram
that rely on Look Out Protection and Lone Worker Protec-
tion as part as their operation. The Know Before You Go is
being applied when those employees are determining if Mini-
mum Distance of Separation is available to apply Train Ap-
proach Warning or Individual Train Detection.

Number 5 in the Know Before You GO – 5 Life Savers states to turn your “Right to Understand” into action. Eve-
ryone turning their “Right to Understand” into action will ensure that everyone goes home safely.
