OPERATIONS UPDATES
What Is Nauto? By Graham Rose, Vehicle Fleet Manager
What is Nauto?
Nauto is an AI based technology that helps change driver behavior in real time by using predictive collision alerts,
driver behavior alerts, self-guided coaching, manager led coaching, incident reporting and on demand video. In short
it is an AI-powered fleet management software that anticipates driver behavior, reduces collisions, and saves lives and
money.
How is your VERA score calculated?
The Fleet VERA section provides a snapshot of the selected group’s safety scores from the trailing six full weeks.
Safety scores are refreshed on a weekly basis, every Monday at 12:00AM UTC. To receive scores for any week, the
fleet or subfleet must have at least 2 hours of accumulated driving time.
Nauto has three safety scores: VERA Score®, Attentive Driving Score, and Smooth Driving Score. The main score is
the fleet’s VERA Score, a synthesized risk score for the fleet.
Visually Enhanced Risk Assessment Score, or the main score that summarizes all driving events into one
VERA score. Nauto’s VERA Score is composed of two subscores: Attentive and Smooth Driving.
Score A driver’s VERA Score will be weighted at 75% for Attentive Driving and 25% for Smooth Driving.
The Attentive Driving Score looks at driver distraction durations across each trip. If a driver is distracted
Attentive for more than 0.5% of the duration of his moving trip, the Attentive Driving Score will automatically be 0
Driving for that trip. If the driver is distracted for less than 0.5% of the trip, the Attentive Driving Score for the
Score trip will be given a score from 1 - 100 based on the aggregate duration of driver distraction across the
length of the moving trip.
=> 0.5% distracted across moving trip → Attentive Score is 0
< 0.5% distracted across moving trip → Attentive Score is 0 - 100 based on the distraction severity
(linear relationship)
Smooth- The Smooth Driving Score is based on the number of aggressive driving events exhibited during a trip:
Driving • Acceleration
Score • Braking
• Cornering
• Tailgating
Each aggressive driving event subtracts from your driver’s Smooth Driving score of 100, based on the
number and types of events, normalized to a 1-hr driving trip.
