Spotlight—RGS Operations
Asa Crownover Continued
What’s your favorite way to spend your time off when your home?
When I am on time off I enjoy taking the family out of town. They don’t get to travel as much as I do so I try to get
them out and about. I love spending time with my kids more than anything.
Where is your hometown and what’s your favorite thing about your it? What keeps you there? Would you
move if you had a chance?
My hometown is Stonewall, Louisiana. I enjoy the out of the city lifestyle. There are no real neighbors to worry
about. I’ve always considered moving somewhere that wasn’t always hot and humid. My favorite thing about Stone-
wall is that it’s quiet, not very many people and not much traffic. It has one of the best school districts in the state.
What keeps me here mainly is family. They are within a 30-minute drive.
What is something about yourself that would surprise your co-workers?
What would surprise my co-workers is that I’m pretty tech savvy.
What’s the best advice you were ever given, and who was it from?
The best advice I was given was when I was first starting to operate, and I would beat myself up over messing up or
having to ‘punch out’. My trainer told me it’s not about how many times you screw up its about how you recover
and learn from the screw ups.
What advice would you give a new Field Operations Employee?
Stick with it. At first, it’s a bit daunting, the time away from home and family and the long hours. But the experi-
ences you gain while you’re here and the different backgrounds from people you will be working with is something
you can always take with you. Sure, the money is great but take it as a time to better yourself, learn something
new.
Is there one thing that surprises you about working at Loram?
What surprises me most about Loram is their ability to solve issues may it be machine or technical. I have wit-
nessed moving heavy equipment or even engines overnight to get the machine back on the tracks.
What skill would you like to master and do what skill have you felt good about already mastering?
A skill I would like to master would be PLC programming. As someone who has tinkered with different languages
or programs when I arrived and learned about what PLC’s were and what they can do, I’ve always been interested
in the programming side of it.
One skill I would have to say I feel pretty confident in mastering would be Operating but there is always room for
improvement and learning!
