Spotlight—RGS Operations
An Interview with Asa Crownover, Superintendent Currently Assigned to RGS9
When did you start with Loram? What was your first
impression when you arrived at the machine. Can
you tell us a little bit about your experiences the last
couple of years at Loram that would be a good ex-
ample of what Loram does and who Loram is?
I started working for Loram on 01-18-2016, a little over
5 years ago. The first machine I was assigned to was
RGS7 grinding for the CP. My first impressions of RGS7
when I arrived was ‘this is pretty cool’. It was something I
had never done before, nor did I know existed. I had
nothing but questions about what this did or that did.
Over the course of the last 5 years there are a few things
to take away from my experiences and in my opinion
make a good example of what Loram is. It would be the
people you meet from all walks of life with different ex-
periences coming together to make a job work. It helps
you develop skills whether it be working with tools
you’ve never worked with before or performing tasks
that you never thought you would do.
What is your favorite task on the machine?
Honestly my favorite task on the machine is operating. It makes the shifts move by quicker.
What’s your favorite memory from this past year while working?
My favorite memory at Loram in the past year would be when I did a small run with the RIV’s. After being on grind-
ers for most of my time the RIV was a fresh platform that reinvigorated my interest in learning a new system and a
new way to operate.
Define what success for you at Loram looks like?
Success for me at Loram is a safe night of operations without machine issues or personnel issues.
Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
As a hobby I enjoy coding. I have made a couple of website designs, a few small apps and currently working on a
game development project in my free time.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you have a day off?
Working on projects I have on the computer, watching you tube videos (mainly tutorials) or talking with develop-
ment communities.
