Spotlight on RG403
This month’s interview is with Matthew Wilson, Superintendent RG403
When did you start with Loram? What was your first impres-
sion when you arrived at the machine?
October 2014. I arrived at RG306 and was amazed and daunted
by the size of the machine. Amazement wore off after a few blow
downs. From RG306 I transferred to RG405; floated between a
few machines as I worked my way up to Superintendent. Now
I’m hanging my hat on RG403.
Do you have a favorite task on the machine?
Can’t say I have a favorite. They all seem to blend at this point.
What’s your favorite memory from this past year while
working?
Plenty that aren’t appropriate for a Track ’N Times paper, but
aside from them, building a team. Had quite a few people move
up, and we’re getting a good core group trained up and moving
ahead.
Define what success for you at Loram looks like?
Good question! Every day is full of successes and failures. Some are within your control and some are not. I try
focusing on the positives, learning from the negatives, and continuing to move forward.
Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I like to BBQ. It’s not really hidden, as I’m usually cooking something every day at the machine.
How do you pass time when you get a day off?
Sleep, do laundry, and sleep some more. Working 80+ hours a week, you need to get it while you can.
What’s your favorite way to spend your time when at home?
Spend time with the family, going camping, or having a BBQ at the house.
Where is your hometown and what is your favorite thing about your hometown? Would you move if you
had a chance?
I was born and raised in Marlette, MI. It’s a small farming town. It would be nice to move closer to civilization,
but its relatively quiet. Most of my immediate family is there.
What is something about yourself that would surprise your co-workers?
Not much! I’m pretty open, to a fault.
