Spotlight—Matt Wilson

What’s the best advice you were ever given and who was it from?
If you’re going to do it, do it right. If you aren’t going to do it right, then don’t do it at all. My dad gave me that ad-
vice. I’m sure I wasn’t too impressed with that advice when he was giving it, but it eventually stuck with me.
Have you had a favorite mentor at Loram? If yes, how did they influence you the most?
I have had many mentors at Loram throughout the years, but my current boss is probably one of my favorites. He
is always willing to lend a helping hand and we have made a lot of good memories together!
What advice would you give a new Field Operations Employee?
Eyes open, ears open. Listen and learn not only the what, but the why. Everything we do is for a reason. Need to
have that drive and desire to learn more than just the basics. If you’re happy with showing up and blowing down,
and that’s it, then maybe this isn’t the job you’re looking for. If you want to learn and move up? This is the place.
What’s one thing that surprises you about working at Loram?
Teamwork. From the upper management/office level, down to the machine level. How much can get accomplished
from people working together for a common goal. No other job I’ve had has had this much teamwork. Still amazes
me after these 7 years.
What skill would you like to master?
For me the skill I would like to master would be people skills. I’ve never been extroverted, but I think I’ve adapted.
It’s been my hardest challenge and it’s still a work in progress.
Where was your favorite location to work in and why?
I greatly enjoy working anywhere in New York State!
Where do you see yourself 5 years down the road?
Hopefully 5 years from today I will be on a time off rotation enjoying a cold beverage at my campsite with my lovely
wife and dog smoking racks of ribs!
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
By far my campsite close to where I live in Michigan!
