SPOTLIGHT ON SBC15

Interview with Derick Canty, Superintendent SBC15. Derick started
working at Loram on May 12, 2004 as an Operator-1. April 2006 he was
promoted to Crew Chief of SBC11. In 2010 he received another promo-
tion to Superintendent of SBC11. Derick’s career at Loram has always
had him assigned to a ballast cleaner. He has worked and assisted on
multiple generations including 1, 2, 3 and the newest 2400.

                                                 Q. How did you hear about Loram?
                                                 A. I found out about Loram in the classified ad of the newspaper in Beau-
                                                 mont, Texas.

                                                 Q. What is your favorite thing about working at Loram?
                                                 A. My favorite thing about working at Loram now being a superintendent
of SBC15 is like I’m running my own business.
                                                 Q. What part of the United States is your favorite area to work?
                                                 A. The area I like working in is any place close to my home of Louisville,
                                                 Kentucky.
         Q. What is the best advice you have been given?

         A. The slowest gazelle is breakfast and the fastest gazelle gets breakfast. I received that advice from my uncle Chuck
as a young man working for him as a plumber’s helper.

         Q. What is the best advice you have given a new employee?
         A. I think the best advice I’ve given a new employee is if a person really tries and applies them self and work hard, they
can move up and run a piece of Loam equipment as a supervisor. When I began at Loram I didn’t know I would have
worked my way to the position I’m in.

         Q. What is something that might surprise your coworkers?
         A. I was homeless for three months trying to be a responsible man and
take care of myself at nineteen years old after graduating Job Corp in
         Guthrie, Oklahoma.
         Q. What is your favorite food available at the convenience store?

         A. My favorite food at the convenience store now that I have been on
my diet for a year and a half is hard boiled eggs. (Derick Lost 120 pounds
over 1 ½ years ago. He said he feels so much better with a lot less aches
         and pains. YEAH DERICK!)
