Review—Seat Belt and Cell Phone Use

Hello, my name is Tim Mingus Superintendent on DC2. Today I wanted to talk to eve-
ryone in the field about seat belts and cell phones. Distracted driving caused by using a cell
phone and not wearing a seat belt are two of the major causes of vehicle injuries and deaths.
As we all know seat belt usage is mandatory for all occupants of a Loram vehicle. Not
only is it a Loram Rule it is the Law. We are all good about buckling up before we hit the
road, but how about when we move the OR short distances? Seat belt usage is still required
no matter the distance the truck will move. Just think about it, bad things can happen not only
on the road, but in the motel parking lot or railroad right of way as well. Why take the risk of
possible injury or death caused by not wearing a seat belt. So let us all avoid the ticket and
click it.
The other topic is cell phone usage in the ORs. Cell phones have become an essential
item for modern life. Most folks can’t remember how we got by without them, and younger
people can’t imagine a world without them. They are wonderful little inventions that can do
almost anything, even kill you. I will bet that for most of us it is not uncommon to see another
