to be the next step the organization should take in reporting. The Registrar agreed.
ITEM 6: CARIBBEAN ADVANCED PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CAPE)
Concept Paper for CAPE Design and Technology Syllabus
26. The SUBSEC received the concept paper for the CAPE Design and Technology Syllabus
and noted the instructional approach for the syllabus which was presented in three stages:
Inspiration, Ideation and Implementation. Members were informed that the syllabus was intended
to position Caribbean learners to enter the competitive and lucrative Design and Technology
Industry, either through direct employment or entrepreneurial ventures; facilitate direct
engagement in creative and engineering design process; facilitate project-based learning,
innovation and problem-solving; support the generation of imaginative ideas and solutions;
employ rapid prototyping approach to meet identified needs and expectations; and create design
thinkers to solve real world problems.
27. The SUBSEC heard that the role of the syllabus in CXC’s suite of products includes
expanding the engineering offerings; developing 21st Century skills; and creating new knowledge,
value and wealth through innovation and product design. It was noted that the syllabus is a 2-Unit
course where Unit 1 - Fundamentals of Design and Technology comprised three modules:
Introduction to Design and Technology, Design Approaches, and Rapid Prototyping in Design and
Unit 2 - Innovation and Product Development comprised 3 modules: Design Technologies,
Product Development and Marketing; and Design and Technology for Entrepreneurs. Members
heard that the instructional/assessment approach of the syllabus would take students through three
stages: Ask; Imagine; and Create. At each of the stages, learners would receive credit for their
work.
28. Mr Pasha gave his support for the development of the syllabus given the focus to get
students to begin to think about creating their own businesses.
29. The SUBSEC approved the concept paper for the development of a syllabus in CAPE
Design and Technology.
