WELCOME AND OPENING REMARKS
3. The Assistant Registrar/Syllabus and Curriculum Development (SCD) Division welcomed the
participants to the Panel meeting and thanked them for availing themselves to further refine the
syllabus. The Assistant Registrar/SCD reminded the members that the meeting should continue to
benefit from inputs from the diverse backgrounds that members of the Panel brought to the meeting.
4. The Assistant Registrar/SCD informed the Panel that subsequent to the syllabus being
approved by SUBSEC in April 2016, a number of stakeholders raised concerns about the revised
syllabus. These concerns surrounded the length of the syllabus, the time period covered by the
syllabus, the treatment of the topic of slave systems within the Caribbean by the syllabus, and the
inclusion of topics not considered to be relevant to the subject. The Assistant Registrar/SCD advised
the Panel that they were being asked to review the feedback provided by stakeholders and revise the
syllabus as necessary.
