E-LEARNING MODULES AND LEARNING GUIDE FOR TEACHERS
SUGGESTED TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Teachers may use the Suggested Teaching and Learning Activities outlined in the table below.
Activities
1. DEBATE Arrange a debate on high population growth or high consumerism as
principal causes of global environmental problems, using, for example,
reports from the 1992 Rio Conference. Teachers should encourage
students to debate high energy consumerism that is linked to lifestyles
and technology development.
2. SITE VISITS Arrange site visits to natural resource agencies as well as organizations
where sustainable energy (for example, EE, EC and RE) is clearly
demonstrated, or lectures given by representatives.
3. WATCH VIDEOS Have students watch videos on energy efficient buildings and discuss
the features present.
4. WATCH MOVIE Have students watch the movie “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”.
This should be followed by a discussion on what they learnt about
wind energy.
5. BUILD MODELS Ask students to design and build model anemometers to better
understand and measure wind speed.
6. DISCUSSION Place students in groups and ask them to discuss how human beings
get their energy and what would happen if there were no food.
7. DIAGRAM Ask students to draw a diagram depicting the flow of energy through
simple food chains and food webs.
8. VENN DIAGRAM Ask students to create a Venn diagram to compare/contrast a form of
renewable energy and a form of non-renewable energy.
9. CLASS DISCUSSION Have class discussion on the impact of fossil fuel use on our health and
the environment, and the new of renewable energy.
10. RESEARCH Ask students to conduct research of sustainable energy, and in
particular, EE. RE and EC in the Caribbean, paying attention to
opportunities and challenges.
