P. 181
CARIBBEAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL
CONFIDENTIAL
SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS COMMITTEE (SEC)
DECEMBER 2017 MEETING
SEC (10 {d}) 2017
PROPOSED CHANGE TO QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT
FOR EXAMINING COMMITTEES
1. SEC is asked to recall that the Examining Committee (EC) comprises a Chief Examiner
and two or more Assistant Chief Examiners for each syllabus. Their role is to serve as content
specialists who set question papers, prepare mark schemes, supervise the marking of scripts
and reporting of grades. These are highly confidential positions, the current criteria states
that persons wishing to be nominated for appointment to an Examining Committee should satisfy
the criteria as at Appendix 1.
2. In retrospect, the perspective is that a post graduate certification may not be
necessary at the Assistant Chief Examiner level or in the Technical and Vocational subject
areas.
3. The new criteria which is being proposed at Appendix 2 would allow for candidates to
be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Chief Examiner if they possess a university degree
in the subject area or a CVQ Level 4 in the subject or related areas.
4. SEC is asked to approve the revised criteria for selection to the Examining Committees.
