CARIBBEAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL
SUB-COMMITTEE OF THE SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS COMMITTEE
DECEMBER 2017 MEETING
SEC (3) 2017
Update on the CXC Learning Hub
Introduction
This report presents an update on the resource materials development activities undertaken
by the Council in 2017 to provide resources for the CXC Learning Hub.
Members will recall that at the 2016 meeting of SEC, a presentation was made on the
activities to be undertaken in 2017 to develop learning support resources for CXC products.
The resources identified and developed by CXC will form part of the Free Resources that will
be housed on the CXC Learning Hub.
In 2017, the Caribbean Examinations Council implemented a number of initiatives to engage
students and teachers of the Region in the development of resources to support the
implementation and assessment of our products at all levels. The resources are divided into
two broad categories, Level 1 and Level 2. The Level 1 refers to resources that are identified
from Open Educational Resources (OERs), while Level 2 are resources that are created and
owned by CXC. The latter provides an opportunity to hone the creative skills of our teachers
and students through the creation of authentic Caribbean Centric digital content. This also
includes the stories written by students from CPEA TM Participating Territories who
participated in the CPEA TM Story Writing Competition.
With the exception of the CPEA TM Stories which may be accessed on the CXC® website, all
resources are currently housed on Notesmaster. Notesmaster is the e-learning platform,
designed to enable students and teachers from the across the Caribbean to learn, interact
with each other and share resources in virtual groups. On Notesmaster, teachers are
engaged in the established Virtual Subject Associations (VSAs) while students participate in
the Virtual Learner Groups (VLGs).
