Journals and Book Reports to develop pupils’ language literacy skills. As part of their writing
tasks, pupils are required to complete various writing tasks including narrative pieces.
The CPEA Story Writing Competition was conceptualised to provide pupils participating
TM
in the CPEA TM an opportunity to create stories that would be read by a regional audience.
The project is aimed at identifying short stories, written by pupils, which can be used as
reading materials by other pupils. By providing pupils with an authentic audience for their
stories, they will become more motivated to write. Additionally, this activity provides an
avenue to unearth pupils writing potentials and talents. There are no restrictions on the
theme of the story. However, the story MUST be original in nature and should be centered
around Caribbean experiences.
The second staging of the CPEA Story Writing Competition took place from 2 October 2016
to 31 March 2017. Forty-six stories were received from pupils in Anguilla, Grenada, Jamaica,
Montserrat and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Stories selected for publication from the competition are edited, illustrated by a professional
illustrator, assigned an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) code, converted to an
eBook and published on the CXC website.
The top stories for 2014/2015 and 2016/2017 are published as eBooks on the CXC®
Website.
