agreements between the CXC and receiving institutions. The SUBSEC was reassured that the
CXC would proceed in that manner.
70. The SUBSEC considered the report and discussion which ensued, and approved the
plan of action outlined to ensure full recognition of the CXC-AD® as an advanced standing
associate degree.
REGIONAL AWARDS
71. The SUBSEC received a presentation on the Regional Awards for Outstanding
Performance in the CSEC® and the CAPE® and noted the addition of four new award areas,
namely: the CAPE® Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Award, the
CAPE® History Award, the CSEC® Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Award, and the CSEC® Award for Outstanding Performance in Agricultural Science (DA).
Members also heard that for the first time in the CXC’s history for the CSEC®, one student
had received awards in four areas. The SUBSEC noted the performance of the 2017
outstanding achievers.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
72. Dr McLean expressed concern about the use of the Computer Assisted Drawing (CAD)
software as a requirement for the CSEC® Technical Drawing (TD) as well and the CAPE®
Building and Mechanical Engineering Drawing (BMED). She asked that the CXC consider
deferring the requirement to 2018 in an effort to allow schools to effect the necessary
upgrades to their technology and for training to take place. She also expressed concern that
the moderation period for the CXC falls within a period which presents challenges which
negatively impact teachers’ responsibilities to their schools and students. The Registrar
informed the SUBSEC that the CXC had heard the call from FAC regarding deferment and
would be willing to honor the request for 2018 only. He advised the SUBSEC that the option
to use the software or submit paper was currently made available to centres. The Registrar
however urged members of the SUBSEC to inform their Ministries that centres which are
able to utilize the software should do so. In relation to moderation, he informed the SUBSEC
that for 2017 the moderation process began late which accounted for the challenges. He
assured the SUBSEC that the CXC would revert to the traditional period during which
moderation was usually conducted.
73. Mr Pasha expressed his appreciation for the mounting of webinars for the English
SBA and enquired whether one was conducted for Mathematics. Mr Sam informed the
SUBSEC that webinars were conducted for both subjects and that the attendance for
Mathematics far exceeded that for English. He added that the hyperlinks for both webinars
had been made available on the CXC website, the organization’s Facebook page as well as its
YouTube channel. They were also sent via e-mail blast to persons on the CXC contacts list.
74. There being no other business, the meeting terminated.
