• use Solar PV for lighting;

• use energy-efficient appliances and equipment;

• use LED lights, motion sensors, smart faucets, and low flush toilets;

• use trees to shade the building; and,

• incorporate the use of built-integrated photovoltaic applications wherever
appropriate.

b) Transport

Government has a critical role to play in improving energy efficiency in the transport
sector. Some ways of improving energy efficiency in transport are:

• Governments should:
• provide tax incentives for the importation of fuel-efficient and electric

vehicles;

• ensure that the public transport infrastructure is well developed and

convenient to encourage the use of public transportation by passengers;
and,

• provide and encourage the use of biodiesel and ethanol blends.
