                          Sir,
                                                                        •V;>.
With reference to your letter No,P,982■ of
8th instant and previous correspondence on tho subject
of the tyranny of the Sheikh of Bahrein and his family

over their subjects, I am diroctod by tho Marquess
Curzon of Kodloston to point out that the situation at
Bahrein as described by His Majesty's Resident in tho
Persian Gulf end the Political Resident at Bahrein, is
likely to give rise to adverse comment in Persia, The

present highly unsatisfactory state of affairs in Bahrein
is therefore prejudicial to the interests of His
                          Majesty's Government,
2, There appears to be little prospect of any

material improvement as long as Sheikh Abdullah remains
in the country and I am accordingly to oxpreso tho hope
that the Government of India may be pressed to approve
the recommendation of His Majesty's Resident in tho
Persian Gulf that Sheikh Esa should bo urged to deport

Sheikh Abdullah whose activity is responsible for tho
                          present situation in these Islands.
3, A copy of this letter is being sent to the

                                                 I am,
