I uavh tho honor to acknowledge the receipt of your lettor No. 241,
dated Oth instant, with its enclosures, from tho Resident in tho Persian Gulf,
reporting tho measures adopted bv that officer, with the co-operation of the
Oomninndor of Her Majesty’s Ship Vigilant, for punishing the Chiefs of
Bahrein end Aboothaboc.
2. In roply, I am directed to stale that the Viceroy and Governor
General in Council entirely approves of Colonel Pclly’s proceedings, and
considers that ho has given a very proncr lesson to these turbulent Arab
Chiefs not again to disturb the peace ot the Persian Gulf.
3. His Excellency in Council, moreover, trusts that the measures
adopted by Colonel Pclly on the occasion will have a lasting good effect.
