                     Apart from several large estate oases9 no case of
              particular Interest ar Importance was heard In the Courts,
                     Tho Minors Department did good work throughout the

              year and dealt with an increasingly large number of estates.
              This department la under the presidentship of Shaikh Salman
              bin Hamad al Khalifah end is one of the most successful
              innovations of raccnt years. It is still opposed by the

              Sunni Qadhis and other Interested persons but In spite of
              this it is thriving and doing useful work.
                     The Committee of the Shla tfakf Department completed
              its term of office and a new election is to be held early
              In the now year.

                   (b) Agency Courts
                     The total number of olvll and criminal oases deolded

              in the Agency and the Senior Joint Courts during the year
              1941 was 1633 and 244 respectively. This represents an
              increase of 247 on the civil side and a decrease of 60
              on the criminal side as compared with the preceding year.
                     There were in addition a few cases under the varibue

             Defence Regulations made under the Persian Gulf States
              (Emergency) Order in Council, 1939, relating to profiteer*
             ing, non-observance of black-out regulations, Infringement

             of oonsorship regulations, etc.
