the hands of tho Mohossil, hut on the 12th the Sadr Azcin telegraphed to him

lio took his departure. Tho Prince had on tho 11th reported to the Sadr Azcin
tho whereabouts of seven pirates, and also his intention to go to Fclahcca.
Colonol Herbort has encouraged Mr. Robertson to redouble bis efforts, promis
ing to bring thorn to notice of Government.
131. Agrcoably to orders from Constantinople, Rcouf Pasha ordered tho
Mutescrif at Basrah to hand over to the Agents of tho British India Steam
Navigation Company the recovered spccio said to amount to Its. 20,S72. Under
similar orders the prisoners, now 30, were to be tried at Baghdad, it was proposed
by tho Governor-General himself in the presence of Colonel Herbert, who
would endeavour to have tkoso convicted sont to Basrah for punishment on tho
eceno of their crime.

133. Prince Hamza Mirza refused to recognize tho Turkish Agents official
ly, as they held no. letters of recommendation from their Government, and
declined further communication with them. Mr. Robertson’s remonstrances
proved fruitless, as the Prince had been annoyed by a refusal of tho Gomet for
his conveyance.
134. Colonel Herbert suggested to Riouf Pasha to telegraph to the Turkish
Minister, i.e., at Teheran, for tho recognition of tho Turkish Agents, and the
necessary orders were eventually sent to Hamza Mirza by the Sadr Azem.
135. Three pirates were caught and delivered to the Mohessil, and only
four known Cashmere pirates were at large [one of them said to be dead].
136. Mr. Robertson telegraphed on the 10th February from Felalieca that
he had got 11,91-7 Krans of the Cashmere plunder, and hoped for tbo remainder
atFelaheea in a few days, that lie was well supported by the Shahzada, but the
missing pirates wero not thero apparently.

137. It was determined with the sanction of the Porte not to try the pri
soners at Baghdad but at Basrah, from whence the linding and sentences would
bo transmitted via Baghdad to Constantinople for sanction.
138. An attempt of six pirates to escape from prison had probably caused
Biouf Pasha to desire tho speedy trial of tho whole number.
