Dear Weightman,
Yesterday evening I took the enolosed letter
containing demands from Arabs and Bahama to His
Highness. Shaikh Sulinan was present, We dis-
cussed it for an hour and a half but in rather a
general way. We also discussed some suggestions
of mine.
2, It was agreed that there should be a
census of the population of Bahrain and that the
State Police should be increased by another one
hundred raon.
[ 3. Education. His Highness approved of an
Advisory Coramitteo on Education provided that the
commit toe should not control expenditure or have
authority to appoint or dismiss the staff. Their
duty would be to suggest new lines of education
and perhaps to visit schools and submit suggestions
to the Government. If possible an official from
the Ministry of Education, Baghdad, should be asked
to visit Bahrain and report to the Government on
the school administration. This report would
offoct the question of the present Inspector of
schools. The Bahrain Government does not feel
disposed to get rid of him merely because he is
personally unpopular^) In any case the whole matter
must be discussed with Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa Al-
Khalifah,
4, Courts. His Highness regards the demands
regarding the courts as being entirely unoonstitu*
