                          also a particular type of round pebbles which are

                          there is a sheltered harbour for launches and sail­
                          ing boats, where normally about a dozen craft are
                          to be seen, a stono pier IB feet wide extends from

                          the shore to the deep water about 400 feet from the
                          land.   On the high ground above the bay there is
                          a stone fort with a tower, which is visible in
                          Bahrain, where tho police post is stationed,     .-.n

                          attempt is being made to drill an artesian well

                          on the edge of the bay but water has not yet been
                          reached.
                               4.   Hawar has been occupied by the subjects

                          of the Ruler of Bahrain since shortly after the
                          Khalifah conquered Bahruin, whioh was in 1783,
                          The principal families who lived in Ilawar are of

                          the Dawasir tribe whose headquarters in Bahrain
                          are Zellaq and Budeya,
                               At no time have any letter subjects lived in

                               The late Ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Isa, used,
                          until he become too advanced in years, to pay an
                          annual visit to Ilawar,   On one oooasion, about
                          thirty years ago, when Shaikh Isa was ut Hawar

                          a lejrge detachment of Turkish soldiers were ship-
                          wrpdked on the island.    Shaikh Isa had them
