i'ho Observer Newspaper publislied a message from
a correspondent on the occasion of the anticipated
visit of Shaikh Hamad al Khalilah, Hiller of Bahrain, to
London. Ho gave an account of the history of Bahrain,
the conditions of life there and the good and friendly
relations existing between the ifulor and his subjects
them and
on one side and betv/eon/the British on the other side.
But this should not be taken, as people believe, that
Bahrain is under British protection. In certain maps
Bahrain has been shown as one of the British possessions
i’o this the Iranian Government objocted oefore the
League of Nations and raised the question of their
sovereignty over this archipelago sovoral times.
Bahrain is an independent Arab otate under
British projection. It enjoys an independence similar
to that of Kuwait, Muscat and Oman, i'he.British
Government is represented there by a Resident who is
a Political Agent and exercises judicial jurisdiction
over British subjects and Europeans. I1 he re are British
Advisers in the scivice of the Bahrain Government,
particularly the Financial Adviser and the Director of
Customs.
