                               2.  You have porhaps disoussod with Rear-Admiral Douglas the quostion
                           of what further assistanco can bo given by Her Majesty’s ships towards
                           stopping this illicit trade. The Government of India will be glad to considor
                           any suggestions which you may bo able to make after consulting tho Naval
                            authorities.
                               3.  You should ondcavour, if opportunity prosonts itself, to arrive at 6omo
                            arrangoment with tho Ohiof of Kowoit for cheeking tho arms trado thcro.
                               4s. During tho visit which you are now making to Bahrein, you will, no
                            doubt, prosecuto any necessary furthor enquiries in tho mattor of tho trado
                            there and the claims of Messrs. Eracis, Times & Co. It will bo convenient if
                            the result of the proceedings ponding before tho Shoikh can bo roportod at an
                            early date. A referonco is boing mado to Her Majesty’s Government on the
                            subject of tho disposal or storago of tho arms and ammunition seized and
                            attached at Bahrein and clscwhoro, and instructions will bo sent to you as
                            soon os possible.
                                6. The report received with your lottcr No. 69, dated tho 21st Novombor
                            1898, contains unsatisfactory disclosures respecting tho attitudo of tho subordinate
                            staff of tho Residency in rospoot to tho arms trado at Bahrein. I am to
                            request you to consider this matter in connection with tho question of how
                            British interests should in futuro bo represented at Bahrein. If you can soo
                            your way to doing so, you may submit proposals for a reorganisation of tho
                            Residency staff.
