authorised to do so by the. British authorities. The agreement, it
is obvious, was merely temporary, and |it must have been meant to
facilitate the destruction of piratical craft which was then proceeding1 upon
the whole Pirate Coast.
On tho 5th of February 1820 a Preliminary Treaty of Peace, binding Preliminary
Salman* bin-Ah mad and 'Abdullah-bin-Ahmad, Shaikhs of Bahrain, to Peace, 5th
prevent the sale of plundered goods, likewise tho supply of jnecessaries to
pirates, at places in their dominions and to deliver up all Indian
prisoners, was executed at Sharjah by Saiyid 'Abdul JTalii, a Wakil
representing the Shaikhs.
Finally, as guaranteed to them in this Preliminary Treaty, the Gonoral
Troaty
Shaikhs were admitted to tin* benefits of the General Treaty of Peace.
