Mirza Jo wad Khan, who was appointed the Agent of fcho Karguzar at
Afohammerah in 1915, was appointed permanent Karguzar* in May and held
flio appointment till the end of the yoar.

Mujahid fugitives and Amir Mufakli-
kliam’s party) with about 500 followers wore defeated by tho Russians and
arrived at the JCarkeh river from Fuslit-i-Kuh. Their intculion was to cross the
river and reach Bakhtiari country through bizful. A few days later two or
three Squadrons of British Cavalry were established at Shush to intercept them.
Messages were despatched hy Ilkhani and Sarem-ul-Mulk (Masoud's brother)
to Salar Masoud tl.rough the Bakhtiari representatives at Bizful advising them
to surrender to Officer Commanding at Shush but without result.
Operations were commenced on 10th April against the fugitives and
Sagwands, who also joined them, with the result that Saiar Masoud with 100
followers were captured, some were drowned in their attempts to cross the river,
and others fled to Pusht-i-Kuh. As a result of this action the bulk of tbo
tribe deserted and Sadiq Kht.ii, Saiyid Mubauimad Khan and Cbcragh Ali
Khan came over to Sarlip Khan.
A further attempt to cross tho Karkeli was made by the fugitives but was
frustrated by the Sagwands and, on the 18th, the Sagwands under Mizban
Khan and Aglia ltcza attacked, dispersed and looted the remainder of them
and 30 prisoner’s wore taken.
On the 21st April Shaikh Durcbal bin Face! of Abdul Khan’s tribe
disarmed a band of 150 Bakhtiari fugitives under BaLauur-us-Sultaneh and
handed them over to Captain Noel.
On 20th May 200 more Mujahedins under Abul Kasim Khan, in flight
from the Russians, reached the camp of Agha Eeza Sagwand with the intention
of making for their homes via Dizful. On arrival of the Shush Squadron at
Kushk Abul Kasim Khan’s party made off up Diz. They were pursued and
a good many horses and arms were captured. Many were repoited to haTC
been drowned while crossing the Diz.
About the middle of May Salar Masoud aud Bahadur-us-Suhaneh were
released and handed over to Ilkhani at Ahwaz.
Three hostages, Najaf Quli Khan, son of Sartip Khan, Ghazban, son of
Kazem Khan and Ghulam Eeza Khan, son of Darab Khan, sons of Sagwand
Chiefs, were sent to Mohammcrah on tho 8th June for custody. They were
accommodated by the Shaikh at Failiych and a monthly allowance of toman*
15 each was paid to them by Government through the Consulate. About the
middle of May, the notorious Mujuhid, Saiyid Isa, was brought to Ahwaz by
Shaikh Hanzal. He was later brought down to Mohammcrah by the Shaikh
and is living at the palace.
In September Imad Daftar was sent to Moharnmerah from Dizful as his
conduct was very objectionable there. He is still at Mohammcrah.
Shaikh Qasiin Ali of Zargan was also taken prisoner and sent to Basrah
about the middle of September.
Sardar Muhtasham and Amir Mujahid the Ilkhani and Jlbegi arrived at
Band-i-Qir at tho beginning of May aud a few days later the Shaikh proceeded
lo Band-i-Qir and brought them to Ahwaz, where a gathering took place on the
23rd and .21th May. Tho Chief Political Officer, Shaikh Haji Rais, Junior
KKans, Consular Officers, and Dr. Young were present at tho mooting. Both
eventually gave assurances to carry out their duties satisfactorily and to
maintain good order in tho district under their jurisdiction*.
Lieutenant-Colonel R. L. Konnion proceeded to Ahwaz on the 4th
Januaty and, after visiting Dizful and Shush,

A .. , returned to Mohamnterah on 3rd February.
On the 10th February he visited tho Shaikh at Idrisiyeh and returned to
Moharnmerah on 18th February. lie proceeded again to Ahwaz on 30th
March and returned on 26th April. On 16th May ho made a third trip to
Anwaz and roturned to his Headquarters on 30th May. r
