100 Day Report
100 Day Report
 SOCIAL ACTION
Archon Paul L. Griffin, Jr.
The Grand Social Action Committee accepted the challenge to lead. The reports submitted from subcommittee chairs and leads demonstrate our collective efforts to plan for success. During the first 100 days, many transition teleconferences and written communications took place with the immediate past chair, Archon Jerlando F.L. Jackson. From there, our momentum picked up speed and gained significant traction.
During our first 100 days, we focused on four priorities: 1) the Boulé Foundation’s COVID-19 Matching Grant review, 2) seeking funding for social action initiatives, 3) planning for the bien- nium, and 4) the Base 11 Parity Project and Next Frontier Initiative.
1. COVID-19 Matching Grants:
The Boulé Foundation approved and awarded twenty-eight member boulés a total of $225,000. The Grand Social Action Committee proudly ac- cepted the assignment to review the submissions. Archon Patrick Oates led the COVID-19 subcom- mittee. He selected outstanding Archons to help get the job done. A rubric was created to score the applications and a comprehensive report was sent to the Boulé Foundation for disposition.
2. Seeking funding for social action initiatives:
We held meetings with three CEOs of major or- ganizations to seek involvement and funding for various initiatives led by the Grand Social Action Committee. We wrote and submitted a proposal
to aid in the effort to secure funding.
3. Planning for the biennium:
Many meetings occurred via Zoom along with conference calls and individual phone conver- sations to ensure that planning for the biennium started immediately. We held our first meeting with all subcommittee chairs and leads on August 13, 2020. Our first full meeting with all members of the Grand Social Action Committee occurred on September 26, 2020. Archon Anthony Aiken, our new chair of the Council of Regional Social Action Chairs, invited me to join the first meeting with the five regional social action chairs in Sep- tember to begin planning. Two regional directors of social action held meetings with their social action directors. I participated in those meetings to walk through the plans for upcoming activities.
4. Base 11 Parity Project and Next Frontier Ini- tiative:
The Base 11 Parity Project and the Next Frontier Initiative will be a significant component of the Grand Social Action Committee’s activities now and throughout the biennium. The newly laun- ched Next Frontier Boulé Fellows Challenge will be a part of our ongoing efforts to impact Black America by creating the Next Frontier STEM leaders of the 21st Century through the HBCUs. We are collaborating with other Grand-level com- mittees such as the Committee on HBCUs and Postsecondary Education Access and Blacks on Corporate Boards. Our participation in the launch has created excitement throughout our member boulés. We envision a very favorable impact on our future work with the Commission on Young African American Males and the Young Adults Career Symposium (YACS) committee. We look forward to advancing these bold initiatives that will change the lives of many young Black Americans in STEM education.
