 Scholarships
The Jackson-Minton Scholarship Fund was initially established in 2015 by Archons of Alpha Boulé to celebrate the achievements of two of the Founders of the Fraternity, Dr. Algernon B. Jackson and Dr. Henry M. Minton, both graduates of the Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The goal of the fund is to address the drought of African American men enrolled in the field of medicine. To date, the scholarship has raised $658,100, including more than $288,000 from the Boulé Foundation and a $274,325 match from the Kimmel fund. Archons from all over the country have contributed to this effort to support the education of African American males enrolled in the Sydney Kimmel College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.
The first recipient of the scholarship, Dr. Peter Beah, is a third-year resident in internal medicine at the UCLA Medical Center. Three more Jackson-Minton Scholarships have been awarded since the initial scholarship was awarded. Jeremiah Davis was the 2018–19 recipient, and two scholarships were awarded for the 2019–20 academic year to Mohammed Abubaker-Sharif and Brian Wogu.
The Jackson-Minton Scholarship was named a Grand Boulé initiative under the Vincent adminis- tration. The Jackson-Minton Scholarship Committee is in the process of duplicating its efforts at other universities and colleges of medicine throughout the nation. Our goal is to celebrate and memorialize the many achievements of Archons in medicine and to increase the number of African American males in the field.
