Wound Healing on Type-2 Diabetic Patients

Oral supplementation with fermented papaya preparations

significantly corrected metabolic and oxidative stress markers

in patients with type 2 diabetes, according to few clinical trials

by Dickerson & Collard, 2010-2015. Fermented Papaya

contributed to the acceleration of wound healing in animals

and humans. The wound healing effect depended mainly on

the removal of necrotising tissue, reduction of bacterial

resistance to granulocytes attack, and speeding-up the

epithelization [Mikhal'chik, 2004]. This clinical research has

shown that local application of Bio Rex Papaya to the wounded

skin resulted in a fast granular tissue formation and

               accelerated epithelization.

Nayak et al (2006) examined effects of fermented papaya

against diabetic wounds on rat model. Extract-treated animals

exhibited 77% reduction in the wound area when compared

to controls which was 59% (see diagram below). The extract

treated wounds were found to epithelize faster as compared

to controls. The extract also exhibited antimicrobial activity

against the five organisms tested. Hence, they concluded that

fermented Carica papaya promotes significant wound healing
