TiSaWot
This individual brings with them an air of “This is Such a Waste of Time”. Their body language conveys boredom and disengagement. You will often find them connected to their digital devices. They are resistant to engage in conversation and activities, and this negative attitude may deflate the overall engagement of the group.
Blabbling Blurter
This individual will often get off track in their remarks, miss the point, or use far- fetched examples to make a point.
Stealthy Saboteur
These individuals’ behavior works to undermine the meeting, workshop, facilitator, participants or objective by stealthily casting doubt, dispersion and negativity without bringing this perspective openly to the group or facilitator.
The Happy Helper
This individual is welcoming, enthusiastic, and actively participates. They respond to each group query and happily take leadership in exercises and activities. What’s the problem? The Happy Helper may monopolize the discussion and not allow the opportunity for the more hesitant or less eager participants to engage and offer their point of view. They may monopolize the facilitator’s attention during group work and at breaks.
Unknown Unheard
This person will not freely participate in discussions. Often their body language and position in the room makes them unseen. They are often observing, internally processing questions and solutions, and have a unique point of view that will benefit the group.
Overt-Over-talker
This individual often shows up in meetings held via conference call. They go on and on, well beyond making their point, and leave no space for others to interject. The lack of visual cues and feedback from an audience can cause each of us to become the Overt Over-talker at times.
IT MATTERS! It matters how we handle these and other distracting behaviors. Each of these behaviors offer an opportunity to more fully engage team members and surface critical points of view (even if it reveals disagreeement).
