 Short and Sweet:
More Tools to Land Your Message
Speak in Thought Chunks. We write in complete sentences and speak in thought chunks. Thought chunks help your audience follow your talk and retain key points. When we deliver a talk using full sentences—as in a written script—it can sound stiff and forced. It makes your content more difficult to follow and retain because there aren’t pauses for the audience to process your information. Think about the chunks of information that you want to share to connect with your audience.
Micro Pauses. When you chunk your information, you pause more. When you pause, you give yourself space and time to breathe so that you have a full voice to land your message. You also provide your audience time to process your information. A pause gives emphasis to your prior statement. Be aware of using filler sounds and words when you pause, as filler sounds can act as verbal static and be annoying to your audience. Silence is OK.
Just stop. With no visual cues to stop us, and the digital wall of silence always present, we have a tendency to run on. If you find yourself running on, just stop.
