Dialogue vs. Monologue. Dialogue shows an awareness of our audience and is a means of working to connect with them. When we monologue, we tend to stay invested in our own ideas rather than the conversation we're in.
Careful of Filler Words. Filler words distract your audience from your message. Be aware of and try to limit your use of: "actually, just, um, so, etc."
Have a Plan and Take Notes. Prep before you speak. It's more difficult to stay focused in remote/virtual communication. If we get distracted, we can easily lose our place. Write what you are going to say in bullet form.
Can You Repeat That Please? If you are asked to repeat yourself, try sharing your information using different words. When we simply repeat exactly what we said, it can still be difficult for our audience to understand.
