Dear Recruiting Manager,
I am excited to have this opportunity to be considered for the Assistant Director of Finance position for
the City of San Jose. My work in municipal government along with my other work experience in the
private sector makes me an ideal candidate for this position.
Currently, I serve as the Finance Director for the City of Normandy Park overseeing the City’s financial
operations. This includes managing multiple responsibilities including Annual Report, quarterly
reporting to Councilmembers on revenues and expenditures, working with members of the community to
discuss airport noise mitigation and impact to surrounding areas, negotiating labor contracts and
facilitating transparency efforts in the community through education, engage in rebranding efforts to help
residents identify what they value most about their community and working with all stakeholders
including community residents in the budget process. In addition to the above, I also oversaw fixed assets
and business license issuance while employed with the City of Tukwila. I was a former employee for the
City of Burien where I managed the operating and capital grants for the city, which often required strict
compliance in reporting and accounting of the granting agency’s funds. I am skillful in conducting
surveys and studies requiring extensive analysis and communicating the results with recommendations to
management, staff, and Councilmembers.
My background in finance and management has provided me with excellent people and communication
skills necessary to succeed in this field. I have a history of building successful relationships within the
organization, Council, and the community. I employ a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease
turnaround times, and streamline work processes by developing task procedures and ongoing review of
existing methods and practices to assess efficiency. I work well my peers through strong interpersonal
skills and recognize the importance of working with others in a collaborative manner to accomplish
results.
Given my combined 20+ years of experience in both public and private sectors, I am an excellent
candidate for this position and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss how I may continue to
contribute to achieving the City of San Jose’s goals and objectives. I would appreciate an interview with
you to see how my background and skills could prove to be beneficial to your organization during this
transition. I can be reached at (206) 251-8083.
My desire for a long-term career in public service and my relevant work experience in the field makes me
a well-balanced and qualified candidate for the Assistant Director of Finance position. Thank you for
taking the time to review my qualifications. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Ferrer-Santa Ines
