Examples of Duties
» Plans, develops, implements, directs, monitors and evaluates departmental operations in one or more of the following areas: adult and elderly services, children’s services and community services, or income maintenance, public assistance eligibility, child welfare, welfare to work employment services, aging and adult services, or  nancial and administrative services; coordinates service programs and resources to serve the direct needs of the community; as assigned, serves as Area Agency on Aging Director or Director of the Community Action Agency/ Program; assures program integrity, customer and community access, and legal/regulatory
» compliance.
Supervises, hires, evaluates and when necessary, initiates discipline of assigned sta ; through subordinate managers works to assure e ective practice across the branch/division in hiring, assigning work, supervising, evaluating, and when necessary
» disciplining sta .
Analyzes data and develops recommendations on budget, sta ng, policy and program activities of assigned areas; presents recommendations to department and county leadership management in written and/or oral form; may present recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
» Analyzes proposed and existing Federal, State and local legislation, policy and/
or regulations for their impact on the community and departmental operations; develops departmental position papers; makes recommendations on and implements operational, or programmatic
» policies, procedures and practices.
Keeps informed on Federal and State grants and funding programs; coordinates the preparation and submission of grant applications; provides assistance in
grant writing to community groups and organizations.
 8 Monterey County – Deputy Director, Aging & Adult Services
» Provides information to the news media and the public relative to assigned program activity areas; represents the Department of Social Services at various meetings
and hearings; interacts with and provides sta  support for various advisory boards, commissions and committees.
» Serves as a member of the Department’s Executive Team and may act on behalf of the Director in the absence of the Director.
» Performs other related duties as necessary.
