Thanks To Maude
Maude knew at once that the “diamonds” were fraud –
actually worthless gaud.
Why did Maude suspect fraud? Because of the nervous way the salesman hemmed
and hawed, and his slip of the tongue – he called her a “ broad.”
So thanks to Maude, whom we laud, the police were able to arrest
this fraud !
Story 226
Don‛t Scoff
At the mention of work, the lazy boy oft would scoff, un-
less the work were very soft.
Well, one day he started to hiccough. So he went to the
water “trough” and began to quaff. His boss, ticked off,
thinking that he was likely goofing off, said, “That’s once
too oft !” And discharged him right off.
