The Red Well-Read Reader

                                                                                                        Story 14
                                           Grand Band
The vi•o•lin•ist fixed his music on his stand ; the pi•an•ist sat
ready at her Baby Grand ; the maestro raised his wand in his
hand - and then, on cue, the band played in such a way that
tears flowed from every lach•ry•mal gland.
But the ap•plause was anything but bland. And all agreed that this band sounded
grand and played as well as any other band in the entire land.

Fang Sics the Gang

Rita couldn't sleep: the screen door went whang bang ; pots 'n' pans went
cling clang; and silverware, ting tang. Now and again the phone rang. Outside, a
flock of geese honked yang, yang. And last and loudest, a trash gang yelled crass
slang.

At her wit's end, Rita cried, "Sic 'em, Fang ! And in a flash, her dog sprang
spang into that terrified trash gang !
