A common thread that seemed to stitch many of the counties represented in the room together are the challenges of being a %u201cbridge%u201d county, trying to solve issues when they are the bridge between rural and urban areas. Likewise, many of the counties represented host military bases, Universities, or other major population hubs.The room was completely full, which to me is a great sign for an exploratory meeting. I hope that all our midsized Kansas Counties look at joining this caucus if it does become official later this year.Following on the heels of the March NACo Legislative Conference, is NACo%u2019s April annual celebration event, National County Government Month (NCGM). This month-long event is designed to recognize county government and encourage you to actively promote your role and responsibility in serving Kansas residents. I encourage you to join your peers from around the country to schedule celebration activities all month long. NCGM is an excellent opportunity for your county to highlight effective or innovative county programs and raise public awareness of services that you provide to the community. This year, the theme is consistent with NACo President Bryan Desloge%u2019s initiative, %u201cBrilliant Ideas at Work.%u201d The theme encourages counties, parishes and boroughs to feature their most innovative and successful programs %u2014 those truly making a difference in residents%u2019 lives.But don%u2019t let your celebration end here. I encourage you to check out the NACo website here for a whole host of NCGM toolkit resources. Spring is just around the corner so that means the Kansas County District Highway meetings will be starting soon.
