Raja Ram was an assistant manager in an Electronics Digital store, Chembur,
Mumbai (Maharashtra). He had been working there for last three years. He
was the only Earning member in his family. He had gone there iN the year
2018 form a small village Chapra in Deoghar District of Jharkhand.He was
living there in a small rented house.Things were going well. One day he
heard the news of coronavirus infection and announcement of sudden
Lockdown imposed from 24 march 2020 onward. It caused panic all over
India.
There has been travel ban, closure of shops. He had to confine in his small
room. After a week, he heard from his Boss that due to COVID -19 protocol
store will have to be close till the situation become normal. So, his services
are no more needed. This news fell like thunder to him. He had lost his job
even he could not go out to seek other job. He had no other option
available. For a month he was confined in house.
One day landlord asked him for the rent. It was hard time for him. However,
he paid his rent form his saving. In Hard times we recall our family. Finally,
Raja Ram decided to get back to his village as he was missing his family and
friends. He was under stress. He had little money left. He bought a second
hand bicycle for Rs 3000 and took the tough decision to return to his native
place riding on bicycle. He had tough experience on the way back to his
hometown.
On the way he met many men, women and children travelling bare foot,
some on rickshaw, some on scooter, etc. He used to travel on day time and
rested when he was tired. On the way some volunteers of NGO’s and Social
Workers were offering food packets and water to drink. Media house were
covering the news of plight of workers. And mis management of
authorities.Finally, after hectic journey of 12 days he reached his home town.
