A few years back I was invited to do a Christmas Program at the Historic
Gold Hill Hotel where I had been performing Cowboy Poetry along with my
rancher friend and singer John Tyson. That same year we had just lost Both
Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. I wrote the following poem for this televised
          Christmas special.

Letter to Santa Letter from santa

      From cowboys and cowgirls,
                                                              Roy and Gene are riding high range;
Now that Roy and Gene have left the range It's just around the bend.
Please find them in your book. They're helping out at Christmas time
We'd like to send a Christmas thanks There is so much to send.
But don't know where to look.
                                                              Roy is tending reindeer
And if by chance you spot them, And put'n um all to bed.
When you find out where they roam Gene is wrapping Christmas toys
Tell them thanks from all of us And shining up the sled.
      From here to San Antone
Trigger and champion are in the ol corral
Tell them thanks for all those picture shows There just raring there to go.
And all those cowboy songs. They can't wait to hit the trail
We were just little buckaroo’s back then To play in all that snow.
But you taught us right from wrong.
Now Ol Santa’s never missed a Christmas,
We learned to say please an thank you, Even on the range above.
And say it with a smile. I'll tell them thanks from all the buckaroos
We learned to help those that need it most And I'll give them both a hug.
      And ride that extra mile.

You made us proud to be a cowboy
When you stood up to the test.
Thanks for all those happy trails,
When you rode out in the west.
