Epilog:
Friends along the trail.
Friends Kay and Ernie Fanning of Gardnerville shared their love of the west
and invited me to perform at the 13 Rhymers Rodeer at the Carson Valley
th
Inn in Minden, Nevada. I’ve been telling stories all my life but this was one of
the first times I ever got paid for it. Ol’ Ernie can twist a tale like no one else
and he never runs out of poems.
In California I’ve enjoyed working with and listening to “The Old West Trio”
Steve and Leslie Ide and their sidekick guitar player and friend Steve, they’re
key part of the Red Mule Ranch Cowboy Gatherings.
In Arizona no one sings any sweeter than Suzi Killman out of Wickenburg, and
Sally Bates of Prescott.
A special thanks to my friend Richard Elloyan, a talented Nevada singer-
songwriter, and poet, and to my Wyoming friend, cowboy Shad Pease, both are
real gentlemen and a treat to listen to anytime they take the stage.
One person I met in Spokane was Dewie Wichman an old time authentic cowboy singer and one
of the best around. Dewie brightened every gathering he attended. RIP Dewie.
