We are all understandably dealing with heightened emotions over the past couple of years, sitting
more than usual while homebound. It is a perfect storm of feeling physically and emotionally
locked up and not realizing why we feel these additional physical and/or emotional discomforts.
How are you actively addressing these new and degrading stressors?
My name is Teresa Porter, I am a massage therapist, yoga instructor, and trained emotional
release practitioner. I am passionate about educating others about the mind-body connection and
empowering people by showing and guiding others to learn how to release, align and reset!
When I was in massage school in 1999, I learned intense emotions are stored in the body’s
muscular structure, and massage helps release those emotions. I have personally observed how
this emotional release process manifests during my 22 years of working with thousands of
clients. When clients are on the table, it is not unusual for random emotional memories to be
triggered during the massage, ones that these same clients have no recollection of being
attached to still.
As a yoga instructor, I have also seen first-hand how emotions are released while practicing yoga.
I often refer to the pelvis as “the junk drawer of emotions.” A lot of deep emotions get stored and
locked up there. The link between the hips and one’s emotional state is profound and fascinating.
Often, we don’t take the time for the most important type of care, self-care. Why not?
Being stuck in being "busy" does not serve us. We are scared to slow down and reflect on what is
working and what isn’t. That fear leads to not being in tune with what we need and want. Autopilot
becomes the path of least resistance; however, it prevents you from living optimal lives.
It is essential to address all your health concerns, including mental, emotional, and physical well-
being. When my clients lack self-care, I have observed that it leads to disease, dysfunction, and
chronic pain. I recognized the same negative patterns my clients struggled with I saw within
myself.
After seeing these negative patterns within myself and my clients, I was inspired to create a
method that could remove the noise in our lives and address these crucial issues. This
methodology, which has become my antidote, is called "The Porter Method.” This new methodology
utilizes emotional release techniques by integrating movement and inner peace work. The
variables of my formula require you to learn how to release your subconscious blocks, align with
your authentic self, and give you tools to reset and create a life of your choosing.
One principle of this method I would like to share with you, one you can implement today, is called
the Power Hour and is part of the “5 To Thrive” program I teach my clients. This practice will help
you turn off autopilot, find stillness, and reconnect to your authentic self.
