Accommodation capacity: The measure of
accommodation stock at a defined destination. May be
given by various different measures: e.g. number of
establishments; number of main units within an
establishment (e.g. rooms, caravan stances); capacity in
terms of residents (e.g. bedspaces).
Accounting period: Normally one year, the period for
which accounts are drawn up
Accreditation: A procedure to establish if a tourism
business meets certain standards of management and
operation.
add-on: any component of a package tour that is not
included in the package price
Advanced ecotourism: A level of accreditation consisting
of all core criteria as well as some of the advanced
certification criteria.
adventure tour: a tour designed around an adventurous
activity such as rafting or hiking
Adventure tourism: A form of tourism in natural areas
that incorporates an element of risk, higher levels of
physical exertion, and the need for specialised skills.
affinity group: a group sharing a common interest,
usually from an organization. See also pre-formed group.
