Interview with the Homeowner
Q: What made you fall in love with this home?
A: We had our eye on this home(and neighborhood) for a while and when the home came up for sale we
knew it was meant to be ours. Our home has endless views of the lake and is surrounded by quiet, safe
streets. We also fell in love with the side and rear yards that offer the perfect locations for hosting family
and friends outdoors. The Thrushwood Lake neighborhood is such a gorgeous setting and provides a
unique lifestyle for the residents. From swimming, fishing, and canoeing in the warmer months to ice
skating/hockey in the winter, there’s something for every age and season! It is all about the lifestyle! The
location is so close to local highways and area amenities like the Nichols Improvement Associations’s
Farmers Market, playground and ball fields. Also, the Trumbull public schools are highly regarded.
Q: Please describe the renovation process.
A: Before we started the renovation process we spent a great deal of time considering our wants and
needs. We hired architect Stephen Boehnmke, contractor Jack Daley and were thrilled to have John
June design our custom kitchen. Because the renovation was so extensive we moved out of our home
for ten months but we were on-sight, overseeing every aspect and detail throughout the renovation.
Q: Why are you moving?
A: We are retiring and are ready to move to an area offering year round warm weather!
Q: Will you miss the neighbors/neighborhood?
A: Yes! The Thrushwood Lake Association is a close knit community. They maintain an email listserv
that keeps everyone aware of what’s going on. Also, the neighbors keep an eye on each other's homes
especially when they are away and have packages delivered.
Q: Tell me about the grounds.
A: While we have a one acre lot it’s very low maintenance. We have a small front lawn and our rear yard
back patio is our three season living room for relaxing and entertaining. Because our home backs up to
the wooded area of the NIA we have so much privacy. Also, we can take a back path from our yard to the
NIA trails and Farmers Market in just minutes!
Q: What makes your property so special?
A: Our setting is amazing! Our home is perfectly sited to take advantage of the year round views of Thrush-
wood Lake from almost every room. We feel like we live in an impressionist painting that changes with
the seasons. Wildlife abounds from Great Blue Heron to butterflies. A pair of ducks nest in the stream
next to our driveway. In the spring they teach their ducklings to swim there and then introduce them to
the lake as they get bigger.
