Interview with the Homeowner
Q: What made you fall in love with this house?
A: From the moment we walked in the front door of 703 Verna Hill we fell in love with the
house. The openness and flow of all the rooms makes it a wonderfully light and bright
‘entertaining’ house. We loved that the entrance was double story and overlooked by the
beautiful eyebrows window. Everything in the house shouts ‘quality’. The doors are solid
oak, the floors are all white oak which we knew would look stunning and contemporary
when finished as we chose to do. The house was built by John L Alterri, a well known
Italian/American architect that created a stunning space that will stand the test of time with
the shape of the windows and stairs and banisters and doors. The patio area is perfect for
entertaining and flows onto the lawn.
Q: Please describe the renovation process.
A: The renovation process took 12 months as we took our time and made sure that we did
exactly what we knew would respect and maintain the solid bones of the house, but at the
same time bring it into the 21st century as a family home.
We changed the master bathroom, the boys bathroom, created a huge dressing room,
updated the playroom / 5th suite over the garage so that it was fresh and bright with
brand new paint and carpets. The entire house was painted throughout and we added
brand new LED lighting which will last for years and years. We made sure that everything
we changed replaced the same quality of finish as we took out. It gave us the same quality
of house but to our style with a more contemporary feel. The fireplaces are delightful and
fill the house with that lovely firewood smell which says ‘ family and home’.
Q: Why are you moving?
A: We would like to downsize and take the opportunity to buy something in Florida as we
are keen golfers and tennis players. We absolutely love the Greenfield Hill Area and hope
upon hope to find something smaller that we can renovate, in this same area.
Q: Tell me about the grounds.
A: In the summer the patio is stupendous. We took down part of the surrounding patio
wall so that there was a sense of flowing out into the back yard, and so you could enjoy
the landscaped garden areas. Being able to look out of my studio window onto the pool
rippling in the sunshine is such a treat. And the pots make for a low but beautiful visage.
In the Fall, the trees surrounding the property are glorious.
Q: What makes your property so special?
A: The quality, the light, the flow of the property, because it is in GreenField Hill which is
glorious. Close to Westport and Fairfield for food shopping. Close to great schools.
If you choose FCDS your children can walk to school which is wonderful.
